Re: L1 Dulwich Hill Line full and partial closures due to maintenance
  TP

It's not possible to ease these curves due to the physical constraints
around them. That said, they are minimum 20 metres horizontal radius, which
is actually quite a generous curve - except for the new generation of trams
designed to run in a straight line only. The problem is that TfNSW has
chosen the wrong trams for the operations, a mistake that doesn't have a
chance of being rectified until the nominal 30 year life of the trams comes
to an end (my bet is that it'll be more like 20 years). In the meantime,
they'll just have to keep repairing the tracks and trams. A classic example
of buy cheap, pay later.

I hold out a vague hope that, now that both Sydney and Melbourne trams are
to be under the same operator (more or less), that the Sydney staff will
actually start talking with Melbourne staff and an exchange of knowledge
between the two operations will open up, bringing to an end 30 years of
Sydney contempt for Melbourne expertise. Maybe a Melbourne swivelling
bogie tram could even be loaned for trialling on Sydney tracks? One can
only live in hope.

On the other hand, Transdev might dictate that Melbourne do things the
"modern" Sydney way!

My biggest fear for Central is that they'll give up on the (self-inflicted)
"difficulty" of the very useful and high-capacity Central loop terminus and
move it down to the street as a low-capacity stub.
