Re: Trams not running between Town Hall and Circular Quay

The busways in the western suburbs, with normal speed 80kmh and 50 approaching stops and street crossings, set an appropriate standard.

Apparently tram drivers need to be instructed when “normal speed” includes slowing for a curve, but bus drivers don’t.

And curiously, as seen in various Youtube vids of test running, there seems to be no common standard on how speed limits are applied on the Camellia-Carlingford section of PLR and on the L1.

No 20kmh creep up to stops, for example.

Curious indeed...

On the inbound track through the Glebe tunnel there has been a hole 2/3 of the way in that has existed for years, with a TSR that has recently been extended with speed lowered from 40 to 20kmh. Apparently running in a tamper for a lift and line of the hole, with some extra ballast, is just too hard. Also, the original 80kmh limit through the tunnel has been cut to 60 in both directions.
