Ballarat memories
  Malcolm Rowe

Ballarat was home to the Phoenix Foundry which manufactured a lot of iron
and steel products including locomotives until ceasing production in 1904.

The tramway in Sturt St Ballarat at the corner of Doveton St had a couple
of rails set across the tramway marking the site of the former rail
connection to the foundry.

My pic of that is in the TDU archives at: https://tdu.to/i/12969

When the Ballarat trams closed in 1971 the section of track was moved onto
the footpath in the Sturt St median park.

I have attached today's pic.

Mal Rowe who doubts that the 'railway' rails are original - never were -
but it's the thought that counts!
