And, as I heard it from a Kew driver (when Kew shared route 79) lots of
work for the starters getting Kew and Glenhuntly cars back home.

Saturday mornings on North Coburgs (route 19) were bad too; in the 1990s
the nominal running time was 44 minutes, but trams regularly took 90,
especially on mornings when there was football at Carlton. Even with block
cars at both ends, the inspectors on the ground threw away the
timetable and ran the best they could to get crews back to depot for their
breaks; and sometimes they borrowed an extra football tram (usually Preston
or Essendon) and sent it out to North Coburg to cover a gap. And there were
football extras for Carlton in Lygon St too, but the traffic wasn't so bad.
Sydney Rd on Saturday mornings was really choked.
