Correct.  The off9icial figures for an E are: Tare weight 46 tonne and
an allowance of 20.6 tonne of passengers.

So that makes it much the same tare weight as a Skoda 15T if we take
your axle load of 5.5 tonne and multiply by 8 axles: 8 x 5.5 = 44.

The C2 5 section Citadis is lighter with a tare of 40 tonne - but spread
over only 6 axles so the axle load is higher.

The Citadis uses an aluminium chassis and fibre glass body panels while
the E class is mostly stainless steel.
