You are going to see a lot more of 'battery electric buses are just as eco
as electric trams but cheaper' arguments now that battery electric
technology is maturing rapidly. Light Rail developments often stressed
their 'eco' credentials to push back against the costs of the fixed
guideway, but that argument is rapidly being eaten away.

Light rail projects need to return to their 'light' roots and get costs
under control, or the 2nd wave of light rail/tramway development and
expansion will go the same way as the first - replaced by 'more flexible
buses'. Only this time the buses will be battery-electric.

I've ridden quite a number of battery-electric and hybrid battery
trolleybuses in Europe, many were artics and even a couple of bi-artics.
Don't think the capacity of a 30m long tram will save them, a bi-artic
electric bus can easily carry the same number of people and doesn't need an
expensive 'guideway' to operate.
