I have observed similar wear on curves along the line in Adelaide. It's
exacerbated by centre island stops and their associated curves.

Who could ever have imagined that single truck trams like the Citadis could
cause excessive wheel and rail wear?

It is the absolute determination by the Engineering profession to not learn
from past experience, to the detriment of the community that annoys me.
