G'day, Mick and fellow TDU-ers!

Destination CITY (Fifth edition) at page 27 has a photo of 548 outside
Brunswick Depot with its odd "St.Louis" trucks. At page 112, the trucks are
described as No. 5 (St. Louis EIB 64) which required specially-packed
bolster rubbing plates. 548 had these trucks from 1929 (when it wad built)
until 1963 (when the bolsters were modified to take standard No. 1 trucks.
Apparently the trucks were very noisy, and the tram had significant body
roll issues.

I remember seeing it in traffic - but never travelled on it! It was sold as
a body only in 1984.

I lived in Nth Carlton in the early 60s and would wait for a W4
on Nth Coburg or Brunswick going home

One of the W3 had 9A trucks and I rode in it also

Going to school,a W2 with No 5 Trucks,St Louis. W2 5?? would often
be on the 8.01 from Richardson St
