That's rather old news – Dec 23 2022.
The number of consultants is probably higher now – but it is all
meaningless because:
(a) The National Party, which should be called the Petrolhead Party and
hates everything on rail, particularly light rail, is almost certain to
lead the next Government after our General Election in two weeks time. It
has promised to cancel the project as soon as it has the power, and will
inevitably do so. Ditto for the ridiculous model of light rail proposed for
Wellington, too.
(b) Even if, by a miracle, the current Labour Government is re-elected on
Oct 14th, it will almost certainly revisit the Auckland 'light rail'
project anyway – because it would actually be a tunneled light metro
costing over $30 bn which no one in the the pro-rail camp believes is
either feasible or desirable compared with the surface real-light-rail
alignment first proposed by Auckland Transport in 2014.
