Changes to tram routes
  Mal Rowe

From Hugh Waldron:

The following changes to tram routes expected on 29^th October and for when the metro opens.

From 29 October.

Route 3A Melbourne University – East Malvern via St. Kilda weekends and public holidays eliminated replaced by Route 3 Melbourne University – East Melbourne. This route will now run 7 days a week.

Route 35 City Circle anti clock wise eliminated. Route 35 City Circle clockwise will continue but when special events occur drivers from the City Circle will be used on other services.

Routes with 10 minute services will be reduced to 12 minutes.

Some routes will increase from 20 minutes to every 15 minutes from 1900 to up to around 2100 to 2200.

Was unable to find out which routes are affected with the reduction to the day time frequency.

From opening of the new Metro the following proposals that may take place are:-

Route 5 will operate via Park and Clarendon Streets to Spencer and La Trobe Streets (Remand Centre)

Route 12 will again terminate at St. Vincents Plaza.

Route 30 will be extended from St. Vincents Plaza and terminate at Victoria Gardens

Route 72 will terminate at Spencer and La Trobe Streets. This will allow a more frequent service between ANZAC Station and South Melbourne.

Route 86 will become Bundoora RMIT to Port Melbourne.

Route 109 (may have a change of route number) will become Box Hill – Waterfront City via La Trobe Street. This was originally programmed to travel via Bourke Street but altered to La Trobe Street when it was realised that trams on routes 5 & 72 may delay a 109 while they are waiting to enter the shunt outside the Remand Centre.
