I know someone who had a similar-sounding experience with Transdev South in
Sydney.

As soon as the statutory minimum training has been done, new trainees are
'thrown in the deep end' to sink or swim. Management only cares long enough
to cover your training costs. Additional mentoring would cost more, so they
probably prefer those people who need extra 'help' to just leave anyway.

The training for tram operators in Sydney is surprisingly short, but they
only have 1 or two routes to remember and fewer interactions with other
traffic. (And the trams are micromanaged to the max, unsure of where you
are along the route and the timing, look at the traffic computer screen to
the left!)
