Thurs.16.6.22 Melbourne 'Herald Sun'.  Electric bus depot ‘charging’ ahead.  IAN ROYALL
THE next stage in moves for a zero-emission bus fleet in Victoria will be the creation of an electric-charging depot in Ivanhoe by early 2024.
Operator Ventura will install 15 charging units at its depot for its first 12 electric trial buses, which are due to enter the network in coming months.
Another 15 are expected to be on the road within two years, servicing nine routes across Melbourne’s northern suburbs.
Six companies are on board to trial two hydrogen and 50 electric buses across current routes in Melbourne, Seymour and Traralgon in the move away from diesel.
Public Transport Minister Ben Carroll said that the conversion of Ventura’s depot to fully electric bus depot would help in the push to zero-emissions.
“We’re transitioning away from dirty diesel to fume-free buses in an orderly and informed way that brings the bus operators, manufacturers and energy providers along with us,” Mr Carroll said.
Ventura managing director Andrew Cornwall said that the Ivanhoe trial would pave the way to fit out the company’s other 11 depots.
The industry is preparing to transition 4000 buses over to zero emissions vehicles as part of Victoria’s Bus Plan.

Thurs.16.6.22 Melbourne 'Herald Sun'.  CCTV helps with flow
CHANGING inner city traffic and pedestrian flows will be able to be monitored more efficiently under a hi-tech camera system adopted by Melbourne and Geelong city councils.
More than 300 CCTV cameras across both cities that are routinely used for crime prevention and response have been upgraded by tech firm Axis Communications.
Spokesman Johnny Lee said the high-performance PTZ cameras followed the movements of vehicles and pedestrians, providing council with detailed traffic-flow data.
