I think that am wrong. Domain Road only goes into Platform 1, so they
cannot go north on St Kilda Road.

Again unless I'm mistaken , looking at Louise's photo, the inbound
Domain Road *crosses* the inbound St Kilda Road track and joins the
Park-Street-inbound track that arises from a set of points at Anzac
station stop. Inbound trams from Domain Road have no choice but to go
to Park Street South Melbourne.
