Re: Canberra's light rail to become wireless through Parliamentary Triangle with joint federal and ACT government funded contract
  Matthew Geier

We already knew the section past the Parliamentary circle would be wire-free, It was a condition imposed by the federal commission that manages the parliamentary 'circle' and I believe the adjacent bridge crossing of the lake. They make it clear early on they would not approve the tram going past if it required overhead wires.

And CAF would have been enthusiastically saying 'No hay problema'. And other sucker for their ACR kit.

The CAF Urbos 100 has the traction converter on the suspended module to leave the roof of the motor module free to hold the ACR battery/capacitor pack. So the existing Canberra trams just need the packs dropped onto the M modules roofs, the connectors plugged in and the software reloaded in on the train computer to include the battery management subsystem. The Canberra trams even already have the ACR control circuit breaker installed and labeled on their breaker panels.
