Re: Victoria's power supply

Good luck convincing Australians, who have built up a level of comfort
through hard work, to give it up and lead a more spartan life - that would
be political suicide for any party. A bigger concern is industry.

Germany, the European country with the highest levels of renewable energy
and also, as a result, the highest electricity prices in Europe, is now on
the brink of an energy crash and one of the hottest selling items there at
the moment is wood fuel stoves. What a fantastic own goal.

I struggle to nominate the stupidest thing about environmental warriors
because there are so many stupidities, but high in the list must be the
subliminal free pass given to some of the biggest polluters in the world,
notably China, India and Russia (the last making it even worse by setting
fire to Ukraine), against the filthy output of which, the combined efforts
of the rest of the world mean diddly squat. I'll believe the
environmentalists when they drop the double standard and tackle the problem
where it is worst first, instead of disarming the rest of us, thus
strengthening the bad players even more. Look forward to seeing you all
demonstrating in Tien An Men Square and Red Square (and spare us the "per
capita" crap, which is just a weak excuse for the bad players).

I've always been an environmentalist myself, who also believes that coal
and oil ultimately need to go, but not a fanatic who thinks the way to
proceed is to destroy the existing structures first before finding whether
the new structures actually work. That's a hell of a gamble to take with
entire economies and the lives of the people who live in them. It's either
extraordinarily naive or malicious, or maybe both.
