Yep totally agree with that. I've been off grid since 1984 and haven't seen a power bill since, all thanks to a perfect solar system. The fools out there that are continually moaning about not having enough power are the ones that are hogging it! Back off on the 5,000 watt power appliances stupid and scale down to just what you need to live. No wonder the grid is screwed with these hogs sucking out the juice.

Where there's a money trail from which a few get rich, there's plenty of smoke and mirrors to hide the trail.
So we're belatedly "catching up" with the rest of the world - just as the rest of the world is pausing, taking stock and changing directions. Just look at what's happening in Europe and the belated recognition by many countries of the overriding significance of energy security in the face of threat. I've said before on this forum some years ago that you shouldn't burn your bridges before you cross them. The really smart and environmentally progressive countries are those that acquired nuclear power (Belgium, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, UK, Bulgaria and Romania) which are far more secure and with better environmental credentials for it, except that Belgium and Germany are about to shoot themselves in the foot by getting rid of it - knowing of course, together with Austria, that they can hypocritically strut their environmental credentials while quietly importing surplus nuclear power from France and Czech Republic to make up their shortfalls.
Germany is on the point of destroying its economy from political stupidity while Russia, the country that is the cause of that can, together with China and India, continue breezing along enriching themselves on coal, oil and gas, untroubled by the hypocritical environmental crusaders who turn a blind eye to them. There are lessons for Australia in Europe and the new Labor government looks like it intends to ignore those lessons. That will end up impoverishing all of us, except the carpetbaggers of course.
I've always believed in the electrification of transport systems, that's a good thing, but you do need the reliable electricity supply to run them. Those two objectives are currently running in opposite directions and, on the lifeboat principle, I think we'll be hanging onto our ICE cars for quite a while (couldn't afford an electric car for one thing and, having had a few drives, I'm unimpressed by them, their weight and downtime being major issues, in common with all battery vehicles). I do believe that coal should go, but wind, solar and batteries are not the sources that are anywhere near capable of replacing it.
The solar system we installed (because I like to try things out before I talk about them) has been a general disappointment and we're working out whether we'll be able to keep living here for the number of years it will take for it to break even (at current estimate at least five years), let alone come out ahead. I feel sorry for those who are conned into installing domestic battery banks because they may never break even before the point is reached where the whole kit has reached the end of its effective life and has to be replaced at much expense. We only bought the solar panels because we're retired, at home during the day and can actually use it directly to run the pool pump and aircon - when it's not raining, which it does a lot on the east coast, then it's useless. Anyone who works or goes to school comes home at 5 and spends the night running on coal, yet the solar company tells you to only run your appliances and charge your car and tools during the day. The whole show is dishonest, totally detached from reality and strictly a toy for the rich (subsidised by the poor).
Solar, wind and batteries aren't going to do anything remotely like the job and blind freddy can see that, yet Albo promised us (or did promise until he recently "qualified" that) cheaper electricity while spending trillions to string wires everywhere to provide "resilience" that in fact we already had through the old power supply system. Earlier in my life I had the optimistic view that the world would incrementally improve over the years (and it did for a while). The worst thing about becoming older is that you realise it's going to continue on in the same depressing cycles of stupidity (complete with war, because there are always bad players in every era). It's like that saying: strong men create good times, good times create weak men, weak men create bad times and so the cycle goes on. We're now plonk in the middle of the weak men and bad times.
And not looking good for electric transport.

Yes, of course the actual electricity is delivered from whatever is on
line at any time, but no payment goes to the fossil fuel industry.
