Seriously, modern WHS seems to be that passengers aren’t allowed to stay in trains/trams/etc. which are being shunted. The Northern Tablelands Xplorer “amalgamating and de-amalgamating” at Werris Creek, however, seems to be an exception to this. I guess, also, that he may not have realised that you were returning?
