Here's some hints about what MAY happen when the link is in place and the Metro Tunnel is in operation.

These are from a reliable source who prefers to remain nameless.

They draw on advice from people working within Yarra Trams.

As these alterations are scheduled on the opening date of the Metro tunnel there may be changes to these proposals prior to the opening.

* Glenhuntly takes back route 78 North Richmond - Balaclava (from Kew).
* Kew takes back route 30 St. Vincents Plaza - Central Pier Docklands
from Southbank.
* Route 109 (with a possible route number change) becomes Box Hill to
Waterfront City via Bourke Street.
* Route 86 becomes Bundoora RMIT to Port Melbourne via Bourke Street.
This reduces the number of routes in Collins Street to 3 (11, 12 &
48)and puts E class trams on the busy Port Melbourne light rail line.
* Extra route 86a (lunch times) between Remand Centre to Exhibition
Building would no longer be required replaced by Box Hill -
Waterfront City trams.
* Route 5 becomes a full time route Malvern to Remand Centre via St.
Kilda Road, Park, Clarendon and Spencer Streets. (At present this
route is a shuttle service at nights between Malvern and Orrong and
Dandenong Roads.) This alteration requires new track between
Kingsway and Heather Street and new curves at Park and Clarendon
Streets.
* In addition there may be a one route or two routes terminating at
ANZAC Station. I would imagine that terminating trams at ANZAC
Station may not go down well with passengers who would be forced to
change to trains or another tram so close their destination. However
from the Government and Yarra Trams terminating trams at ANZAC
Station would result in substantial savings in the number of trams
and drivers required to run the service. This would result in cash
savings for both Government and Yarra Trams.
