Fremantle backpacker hostel, Broome pub and Yagan Square added to exposure site list Peter de Kruijff January 5, 2022
A pub in Broome is one of several new exposure sites for COVID-19 in Western Australia with the northern drinking hole linked to an offshore worker who flew home to Queensland recently and tested positive.
The worker was at the Kimberley pub on December 30 from 8.30am to 12.30pm.

Several Perth locations were also added to Western Australia’s list of exposure sites on Wednesday morning including Yagan Square during New Year’s celebrations, BWS and Woolworths in the CBD on Murray Street, Ampol Foodary at Mount Lawley, Shou Japanese Kitchen in Greenwood and the Dan Murphy’s at Hyde Park.
People who visited the new sites are asked to monitor for symptoms but do not need to isolate unless advised otherwise by the Department of Health.
Premier Mark McGowan said on social media the new exposure sites were considered low-risk.
“These sites all relate to cases which have been previously announced,” he said.
“The site in Broome is related to a case that worked offshore and then flew home to Queensland where he subsequently tested positive.
“If symptoms develop, get tested and isolate.”
More sites were to the list on Wednesday afternoon following an announcement by acting Premier Roger Cook there had been 16 new cases in WA including four where people were infectious in the community.
The sites included the Sundancer Backpackers Hostel in the heart of Fremantle from December 31 until Tuesday and the Healthy Thai Vegan and Vegetarian Cuisine in East Victoria Park on Monday.
Anyone who was at the two sites during the times indicated by WA Health are directed to get a test immediately and isolate until receiving the result unless otherwise directed by authorities.
Several other sites around Fremantle including the old markets, a pharmacy and trips on the free Cat bus are considered a lower risk with potential contacts advised to just monitor themselves for COVID-19 symptoms.
