A big congratulations to David. He was very kind to my mother and I when we visited Christchurch in 2017.

Just a headsup – Dave Hinman, well known NZ heritage tram expert, until recently chair of COTMA, and the initiator and developer of the Christchurch Tramway, has just been awarded a Queens Service Medal "for services to tramways and heritage" in the New Zealand New Years Honours list.

This is just my addition of congratulations on the award of a Queens Service Medal to you in the New Years Honours.
That this is a well-merited, and indeed overdue, honour is beyond doubt. It reflects not only your many services to the Tramway Historical Society, for virtually as long as I have been a member, but also, of course, your central role in initiating and developing the Christchurch Tramway.
Observing that latter process – installing tramway infrastructure in the centre of a modern New Zealand city – has been immensely valuable to me as a light rail advocate, and an example I quote constantly.
Thank you, and best wishes for 2022.
