Fri.27.8.21 Melbourne 'Herald Sun' Letters.
Poor train of thought. I HAVE never seen a government so far off the mark. Its proposed suburban rail network is probably the most stupid idea it has had.
Firstly, going by the blowout on the West Gate Tunnel, the estimated cost will be at least double and it has not done its homework. The number of people using the tunnel will be minimal.
Secondly, near where I live (Cheltenham) we have a beautiful park called William Fry Reserve, which will be destroyed by a station plus carparking. This park has been a blessing for all those who live in the vicinity during Covid.
It is very clear open space is our best weapon against Covid and we are told we will have to live with it so it seems crazy to be building rail loops and trying to cram more people into Melbourne.
It would seem logical that instead of this stupid rail project, we instead get very fast trains to outlying townships to decentralise our state.
