Here's an article I came across whilst researching the removal of the cable tramway and railway crossing in City Road, South Melbourne. It seems a Nunawading clowncillor suggested to the clowncil that the alignment of the (by then) dismantled Box Hill to Doncaster electric tramway could be used for a road, but once again politics got in the way.
