Hi Mal.
It was built to an older design originally used in 1907 and was cheap to build.
65 was part of the second batch of these cars.
A third batch was built in 1923 when the Brisbane Tramways Co couldn’t avoid it, even though their business was due to be taken over by the Brisbane Tramways Trust, the precursor to Brisbane City Council ownership.
The photo shows a similar car under construction at BTCo Countess St Workshops.
