When the Emerald Mk2 ferries were being built in China recently (as a
subcontract to the Australian shipbuilder Birden), Birden's surveyors were
not able to go to China to supervise the construction because of covid and
the ships were delivered to Australia full of issues, which Birden has
borne the burden of having to rectify locally.
