I lived my early years off Drummond St South and would hear the trams at night grongling down the hill from Urquhart St. Then the driver would go into parallel for the short pinch up from Sebastopol St towards La Trobe St.

I first heard this evocative word from our beloved dear departed Matron (Greg) O'Flynn of Warrnambool. He perfectly described any tram rolling down the Sturt Street towards Lydiard Street with all the lovely tram sounds as grongling. Now part of tramway vernacular.
