Another interesting feature of the 1860-ish map, as regards tramway streets, is that it shows Gisbo(u)rne St as running north to south to meet Flinders St at Spring St, consistently with Hoddle's general n-s/e-w scheme for Melbourne as a whole and the skew of the Golden Mile to lie beside the river. To accommodate the (then) New Treasury Building facing the top of Collins St, Gisborne St was subsequently 'bent' to meet Collins St and (unnecessarily, I think) the new link became Macarthur St.
