Adding to Andrew’s reminiscences, he’s correct about the last run. Passengers were ordered off 40 at “hospital corner” and, yes, we scrambled tomorrow cars that had been parked nearby.

I thought I would be clever and go to the depot via the Gardens to avoid the scramble. It was dark and quiet. So dark in fact that I missed a stop sign and would you believe the police just happened to be there. It may have been crossing Ripon Street. Anyhow, I got a ticket and eas sent on my way!

40 continued to the depot carrying sone SEC employees and several invited guests. Among them was well known enthusiast, Jeffrey Bounds, who was the only “gunzel” invitee. It had always been thought the tram was not allowed to carry passengers because it was “out of service” but it eas later discovered to be a SEC management decision. Simple as that!
