I think Sydney tried a trolley operated points changer at the Harris St/Broadway junction near Railway Square, but could never get it to work properly with coupled sets running through it with both poles up.

Other places must have had that problem too. When the British Columbia Electric Railway ran multi-car interurban trains on Vancouver street track with points changers they only used the pole on the first car, with a bus line and jumpers feeding the rest of the train. At the end of the section with the points changers the jumpers were pulled and the poles on each car in the train raised.
