Reminiscent of the similar disaster in Chicago, when a petrol tanker and a PCC collided.  Unfortunately the PCC had inward opening doors, so with the press of people they could not be opened and a lot of people died.  I understand that Chicago took the hint and changed all the doors to outward opening.
