Thank you Roger. That was a couple of years or so after I visited Hobart
for the first time. As you may gather by now, they made quite an impression
on me! It was as if modern transit had come to Australia at a time when
fleets of all modes around the country were ageing and the horrible British
diesel bus was the only replacement on the ascendancy. The new Harris
trains in Melbourne were the only equivalent challenger in modernity at the
time. The Hobart buses were even nicer than the remaining trolleybuses
elsewhere in Australia. Giving them up in a state with hydro power and
replacing them with diesel was one of those decisions as stupid as the
Wellington trolleybus debacle.

It was also the start of a lifelong electric bus "journey" for me, finally
coming to fruition again in Australia! Have any surviving museum examples
of those buses been restored as far as working condition? That would be
worth a trip to Tassie on its own to see.
