A tram will be quicker off the mark than a diesel bus but, sadly, it boils
down to the way they're driven. Outside central and eastern Europe, trams
are driven like a hearse nowadays. The equation will change when electric
buses become the norm and performance will be pretty equalised. However,
bus drivers are allowed more latitude to make the most of the performance
of their vehicles.
