Re: Sydney bus services cut for eastern suburbs in NSW government transport overhaul
  TP

To cut through the mud a little for those unfamiliar with the territory,
this map highlights the frequent service routes (operating seven days a
week at five to ten minute headways):

https://www.mysydney.nsw.gov.au/sites/default/files/2021-05/PT181%20Region%209%20Bus%20Change_DL%204pp%20Flyer_Web%20%281%29.pdf

The map doesn't show routes with less frequent service, nor the express
peak services via the Eastern Distributor to the Elizabeth St axis in the
CBD.

Apropos Green Square, the 309, like the 333 to Bondi, is a pseudo tram
route (the former Botany tram) operated almost entirely by articulated
buses. (Artics also feature heavily on the Anzac Pde corridor at present,
though, when services go to interchange rather than running through to the
CBD, there may be less need for artics here in future and eventually there
will be a metro line down here.)

In recent times, Sydney's pseudo trams (after all, they have the capacity
of a Melbourne A or Z class tram or a single-car former Sydney tram) have
been consolidated onto routes with very high demand, providing very
intense, close headway services. Unsurprisingly, these are all former tram
routes, so they provide a second tier of high capacity service to the real
trams on CSELR and IWLR. Apart from the above routes, the artics also
exclusively service 500X to Ryde (the old Ryde tram) and 100 from QVB in
the CBD to Mosman and Taronga Zoo (a former North Sydney system route). The
B Line to Mona Vale (using double deckers of similar capacity rather than
artics) also follows another former tram corridor, but without the break
at The Spit Bridge.
