It's just a short walk south from the South Melbourne Beach terminus to the out of use Albert Park Beach terminus at Mills St.

I think that this tramway is the last place in Melbourne where the rails just stop in the roadway, without any buffer or posts.

This is the place for a tram to make a break from the constraint of rails and become a "trackless tram"!

Tram 299 was using the old terminus as a short shunt - presumably to catch up with the timetable on route 12 - St Kilda to Victoria Bridge.

He even managed to pick up a couple of passengers on the old shunt - perhaps the first revenue passengers on this tramway for a long time.

Mal Rowe - always pleased to see something a bit unusual in the GTCOTS
