A truck has ploughed into a rail bridge in Melbourne causing lengthy train delays and traffic chaos.

A truck has ploughed into a rail bridge in Melbourne’s inner-city causing lengthy train delays and traffic chaos.
Two of the four northbound lanes on Punt Road closed after the truck smashed into the Richmond Station rail bridge about 3.50pm on Wednesday.
Traffic stretched back all the way to Commercial Road in Prahran as police responded to the incident.

It took about 30 minutes before all lanes reopened, but traffic delays remain.
Passengers on the Sandringham line have also been warned to experience delays of up to 25 minutes.
Motorists are encouraged to avoid Punt Road.
No one was injured in the incident.

- NSW reported nine new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 on Thursday. Seven were linked to the Avalon cluster, and two other remain under investigation. A record 60 000 tests were reported to 8pm on Wednesday.
- The northern beaches have been split into two regions. Households north of Narrabeen Bridge remain in lockdown, while the rest will be able to have visitors from other parts of Sydney.
- New venues visited by confirmed COVID cases include Alma Avalon Restaurant, Macquarie University Soccer Fields, Mona Vale Fitness First, Bondi Icebergs Club (Pool Deck Level), and the MLC building food court.
- There are now 35 people in hotel quarantine who have flown into Melbourne from the designated 'red zone' in NSW.
