Re: Mystery Truck - D Class 123 as built as a trailer at Clyde Engineering, Granville c1899 (MAAS).jpg

What makes this truck different is the use of bolted-up angle iron as the main frame components, rather than the forgings used on the Brill 21E or the rivetted flat iron used on Peckham trucks.

Though I haven’t been able to find a clear photo without the truck overshadowed to check, I wonder if it was the truck for Thomas Saywell's 4 wheel motor car on the Rockdale - Brighton-le-Sands line?

The "standard" D's clearly had tip over seat backs for the second seat so it can face either way. I'm not sure about having traction motors as there appears to be daylight showing below the side number. A motor would block any light there. It looks like a Brill 21E to me. Some of the other D's had Peckham trucks. 123 survived as scrubber car 43s until burnt at Randwick Workshops about 1959. I've seen movie footage of it being rolled over to be burnt and it nearly fell to pieces.
