RE: Ron # 71 - L101. F201

Do you think Alex Cameron and William Goodman may have compared design notes? The first Adelaide F type “dropcentre” car entered service on 22 May 1922, about 13 months after L101.MTT reports show that there were eight Adelaide F type cars in traffic by 30 June 1922.

Ron Scholten, who knows a thing or two, has brought it to my attention that L Class 101 entered service - variously put as 13 or 31 April, in 1921.
She is 100 years old! Alex Cameron, the visionary Chairman of the PMTT, thereafter the first Chairman of the MMTB, ordered these wonderful cars. Considered ahead of their time when new. When it was decided to build a fleet of 4 motor cars for the MMTB - the L Class design was just too expensive, so a stripped down cheaper car was designed - our wonderful W class and its derivatives.
Who would have thought the RAAF has also has celebrated their centenary at the same time.
Happy birthdays all round.
A lovely shot from Ron of 101 in the Sth Melb Per Way yard in August 1972.
Cheers.
