Re: Nicholson St Platforms
  TP

It's pleasing to see the growing use of drive-over platforms and not so
pleasing to see so much effort expended on saving car drivers from busting
their sumps and so little effort on saving pedestrians from getting killed
or injured. The bollards (solid ones) should be between the platform and
the footpath.

The number of narrow little island platforms is also an indicator that
Melbourne is still the fiefdom of King Car.

I remember speaking to a traffic planner once about those hollow plastic
fat yellow bollards that are put on pedestrian refuges to signal that it's
a "safety" zone. Considering the number of them you see flattened by cars
going over them I said to the planner that they should be solid in order to
actually protect the pedestrian rather than give them a false sense of
security. The response was that if they were solid they would damage the
car and possibly injure the car's occupants. Thar be the priorities.
