It occurs to me that the nearest equivalent in Melbourne is another Royal Park - where the tramway crosses Elliot Ave on a curved divided highway carrying heavy traffic (but at suburban speeds).
That crossing is protected by standard traffic lights. See: https://tdu.to/i/53823
However that has not meant that accidents are eliminated. See the attached example.
I think I recall someone on TDU saying in the past that there is now a National Standard for road signs and signals, so presumably this option could be available in NSW.
