Good old South Melbourne depot. Lose a tram depot and gain a BMW
dealership - sounds reasonable. Yes, I realise it was on leased land. That
surprised me.
Just one question - that water tank. What was the purpose for that? They
had mains water, no doubt hoses for fire duties and gully traps - remember
gully traps? All houses had them, fantastic, I can still see dad cleaning
his paint brushes in the gully trap - when he wasn't raking up leaves and
pouring accellerant on them and burning them in the gutter. Not to mention
the back yard incinerator working over time. those were the days, thanks
dad.
So what was the tank needed for? Over to my betters.
