840 was at Hawthorn from entry to service until the closure of Hawthorn Depot in 1965.

It went to Kew until 1986, then to Preston, and was transferred to Newport in 2004.

Bill's recollection about the seats is correct.

It was an odd car - having unique bulkheads - the appearance of which was not enhanced by the extension of the Met colour scheme inside the tramcar.

The attached pic shows those bulkheads and the extra lights in the saloon - 6 lamps instead of the usual 4.
