Can someone  explain why the seat spacing is 2' 5.125" in the No 1 end and 2' 6.5" in the No 2 end.  If you look very carefully, you will see that the 'centre' doorway is very slightly offset to the No 2 end.  Note the distance between seats in the centre compartment is 2' 9.75", but the front of the seat at the No 2 end is 1' 6" to what is (presumably, though not marked as such) the centre line of the tram.  This leaves 1' 3.75" from the front of that seat at the No 1 end.  Again, the distance between the front edges of the back to back seats in the No 2 end is 3' 2" in way of what is presumably the metal top of the riser, while the figures outside also add to 3' 2", but to what item does the 7.5" relate? Does not seem to be any item in the elevation to which it refers, and in any case, the indicated space is only slightly less than the adjacent indicated space of 1' 6"  Compare with the 7.25" distance at the back of the cab at the No 2 end.

Who was the draftsman, and why was this drawing approved?

They had 4 full sized R car windows separated from two "made to fit" windows by a wide pillar which marked the bulkhead location on the R design. That was because construction was well advanced when the decision to modify the cars was made. The R1's as built had 6 equal sized windows slightly narrower than the original R windows each side of the centre door. The attached drawing shows 5 presumably R car width windows, a wide pillar at the different bulkhead location and a half window to fit between the pillar and the door. I still think that the drawing shows internal bulkheads at the location of the wide window pillar.

There is nothing between the seat backs (look at the end bulkheads for comparison) and what you see in the aisle is a step threshold (again compare with the ends). I think  this is actually a drawing of the last five R conversions as built. Some of the lines across the aisle are measurement points for seat pitch etc. So it's interesting that Brisbane considered the R1 design as well as the R.
