GOLD COAST Tram extension
  Richard Youl

With discussions in the last stage of the tram extension being in the headlines lately, I decided to purchase a printed edition today and present the following extracts.

Most surprising is the Gold Coast Mayor, Tom Tate, being reported as favouring the line heading west at Palm Beach then using the heavy rail corridor to reach the airport.

This is quite a nonsensical move as most of the line would be through virtual bushland, well away from where people live and tourists would want to travel.

By the sound of this news report, the Mayor may just be stirring the pot as there seems to be a lot of NIMBYs along the highway, the sensible route.

By chance while researching an upcoming video, I read in some official paper that the future heavy rail reservation is only wide enough for tram or train, but not both.

Wait and see (if any of us live long enough.)

Note the letter from a NIMBY suggesting ‘trackless trams’.

Regards,
