Sure, here's my logic - with reference to the attached screen grab of the stop in Elizabeth St from Google Satellite view.

The view shows the length of the platform stops - marked by a white line across the platforms at the bottom end of the northbound track and the top end of the southbound track.

They are at their limit - with necessary allowances for level pedestrian crossings at each intersection and compliant slopes on ramps to the platforms.

You could JUST fit two Es on each platform, but it would be a tight squeeze.  A more likely practical combination at present is a D2 and either a B or a Z - which fit easily.

Anything longer than an E means only one tram in the platform at a time - i.e. 1 tram per traffic light cycle - which would be problematic.

So, my stop looking like this: https://tdu.to/i/43345 is just a dream for now.

Mal Rowe - who reckons 59 justifies Es, but knows there is nowhere to put them to bed.
