Re: E class progress

Having travelled a little on the E's in the city in peak hours, the advent
of these monster trams creates another safety problem. How do passengers
leave the tram stops after about 10 or more have alighted. The best
example (or should it be the worst) is Bourke St at Spencer St where the
traffic lights do not permit the entire tram load to get across safely and
before you know it another E has arrived with another 100 odd passengers.
Passengers are fenced in to avoid getting in the way of Bourke Street
traffic.

At least at Collins & Spencer Sts there is easier access from the tram stop
and passengers heading to Spencer Street railway station can get across to
the footpath in Collins St and then wait to cross to the station. At
Bourke St legally you need to wait on the tram stop until Spencer Street
traffic gets a green and then you can cross to the footpath. Bourke &
Spencer Sts is crying out for a fully pedestrian phase like Elizabeth &
Flinders Sts. But the city fathers don't seem to care and we know that
VicRoads don't care.
