Re: Re: Powerhouse Museum: 'Slap in the face': Daughter of legendary aviator P. G. Taylor warns against move

What a load of right wing culture war guff, straight from the Telegraph-2GB-Sky After Dark (SAD - how appropriate) bogan media songbook. The Telegraph, the newspaper that incited the burning of the old tram shed at Loftus by telling its cretinous readers it was wide open and waiting for them to walk in and light it up. What a contribution to the museum debate that was, eh?

What at issue is is not whether Parramatta has a museum, it is whether this government of knuckle scraping, fundamentalist, ideologically obsessed vandals of the natural and built environment is going to get away with maliciously destroying a popular institution created by their political betters. There is no reason whatsoever to remove the museum from Ultimo while providing something better than this hideous, flood prone, history demolishing atrocity for Parramatta.

The CFMEU Green Ban is a good start, an existing Green Ban has protected The Parramatta Female Factory site from the greed driven depredations of this idiot regime, and the lesson every activist has learned is constant vigilance is necessary against malicious, stupidity driven ignorance and hatred of anything beyond horse racing and poker machines, the “culture” these predators feel is appropriate for “ordinary” people.

The NSW is opening a new privatised gaol in Grafton today, at a time when crime rates have never been lower. That says all that needs to be said about this regime’s real priorities, and nothing is a more corrupting influence on the so-called “justice” system than privatised gaols.

If they’d spent that wasted money on a new museum for Parramatta instead of carrying out this act of partisan malice against the Power House this argument would be redundant.

Class warfare with the modern irony that nowadays the wealthy elites of inner Sydney vote for the parties of the Left while the common people increasingly vote for the conservatives. It's the most ridiculous spectacle I've seen in Sydney in a long time.

If it had a "traditional" home, it was the Harris St building (1893-1981) that was designed and built for it according to the standards for museums in the 1890s. Prior to that, it was located in unsatisfactory repurposed space, twice. Since 1981 it has again been located in unsatisfactory repurposed space, twice. Throughout all of this time most of its collection has been in storage, opened up to the public only in the last 15 years. Now they're planning to locate it in a purpose-built space in the centre of Sydney, which happens to be nowhere near where it was in 1893, or even 1981. It's sort of blindly obvious logic, but that has no impact on a mob that claims it belongs to them - with the unspoken pretentious implication that "ordinary" people don't appreciate culture, therefore it's best left for the elite to enjoy.

If Wran and Ferguson really thought they were doing something on behalf of their traditional constituency, they would have moved the museum to Parramatta then - but, no, that's headed in the wrong direction for the modern Labor Party.
