I reckon the Depression would have had a lot to do with it.
There were proposals for one man cars in Sydney after WW1, both Birneys and a 2-motor bogie car with the same general architecture as a Brisbane Dropcentre but shorter, but nothing came of it and the lines they were intended for were never built.
