Sydney Trolleybuses - 1
  Ian Saxon

When the Rockdale system closed the double deck buses were purchased and the idea was to make caravans out of the top deck.

The first photo shows how 2 trolleybuses passed each other during a AETM/SPER tour on 29/8/1059 (the last day of operations). The bus against the kerb was the tour bus while the other one was the normal service bus.

In the background was the other tour bus run by Norm Boxall. The normal route was for the buses to turn right out of the side street but the tour wanted the bus to turn left (otherwise it would have to go back to Kogarah to turn) so the crew had to move the trolley poles across to the other overhead line by using a long pole to grab each pole and physical drag them across to the other line.

The second photo shows buses at the old Manly tram depot being scrapped. Luckily No. 19 was not completely full scrapped and this allowed STM to recover the frame and it is now almost fully restored and on display at Loftus.

The third photo shows a top deck being made into a caravan. Apparently this project was nit a success.

The last photo shows what was left after removing the cab and chassis. The rest of the bus was scrapped.

Regards,

Ian
