RE: Train hits 2 cars on Melbourne level crossing OT (just in case!)
  Bob Pearce

I gather from the report that there was a bingle of not monumental proportions (the rear-ender was not that monumental given there were no injuries as such) but then the two I-dots remained stopped on the railway line to exchange details, instead of moving the cars clear. At least everyone was out of the cars – no injuries from the more serious collision.
So what were they thinking??????????? Just get the details – blame the cretin for causing the rear-ender – and get going again – will be late for work otherwise…….
What is it that the railway is for – surely not trains – how silly – who would do such a thing – run trains on a railway line – AND what’s more – expect to be able to cross a road crossing without hitting a car or cars??????????

So, getting back to reality, I hope the PTV is able to recover costs from the two i-dots for causing these massive delays to the passengers, and other associated costs. I hope that gives the insurers something to think about..
Of course, it is possible the insurers will deny all knowledge given the aftermath of the initial situation.

I hope the train driver is okay – no doubt he/she would have been stressing out over what was seen ahead……….

Trains resumed after 1300 I believe. This morning I noted that the upside boom barrier installation looked rather new and was without protective barriers; surprise surprise. Once again a failure of the motorists brain to initiate correctly before heading onto the road.
