Unfortunately every time there is some news report about the tram, the majority of comments are against it. And against any extension. I don’t keep a record, but it is probably the same handful of people protesting every time while the silent majority say nothing.

It’s a pity the story did not give some indication of what the daily ridership is like but I expect that year by year, more people see the benefits in using it. It would also be interesting to know what percentage of passengers are tourists and whether the tram has brought an increase in accommodation usage especially in the Southport to Broadbeach area.

Certainly at my indoor bowls club at Broadbeach, it’s not unusual for somebody to say that they use it to get to the Gold Coast University Hospital. Anybody who chooses to drive there and pay the exorbitant parking fees deserves to be ripped off when there are places to park for free and the tram fare for seniors as only $1.33 off-peak.
