Mick Duncan told me about this very many years ago.

From what I remember it was invented by late Alan Jungwirth.

The exact procedure was take first notch to engage the line breaker.

Then proceed very rapidly to the full series position. That would spin the wheels and thus make the current drain much less than if the wheels were still gripping the rails. Thus the line breaker overload would not be activated.

Then proceed to full parallel while the wheels were still spinning.

While I knew of this procedure, I never once considered experimenting with this when I had the option to do so as a driver.
